I Wonder

Going from being in a committed relationship for 5 years – to being single – there is a void – a vaccuum created within my heart.  I long to feel love – and finding myself on the road alone so often – there are weeks that go by without so much as a hug.  So handshakes suffice, for now – and I’ve learned that turning my attention outward to others is the best antidote to a heart ache.  Rather than focusing on what I don’t have – I’ve been focusing on what I do have.  What’s that, you say?  I have an abundance of love to share.  So, I’ve been focusing my attention on the divine in each of us.  Finding something to love about each and every person really isn’t so hard, if you’re looking for it.  It’s kinda like a personal “Where’s Waldo” game that I play with myself, each day.  “What’s loveable about this person?” – “What’s absolutetly adorable about what they’re doing?”

Oftentimes, I’ll catch people picking up trash, that they weren’t responsbile for littering.  Or opening doors for the ladies.  Or giving up their seat on the bus for a pregnant mother.  I see acts of kindness all the time that are worth noticing – worth acknowledging.  So, I do.  If I see a dude open a door for an older woman who is struggling with its’ weight – I point it out to him.  I thank him.  And, really – we all three walk away smiling.

It’s these moments that are brightening my days – and lightening my steps.

So, when I ran across this poem, yesterday – I just had to share:

I Wonder

I wonder what would happen if

I treated everyone like I was in love

with them, whether I like them or not

and whether they respond or not and no matter

what they say or do to me and even if I see

things in them which are ugly twisted petty

cruel vain deceitful indifferent, just accept

all that and turn my attention to some small

weak tender hidden part and keep my eyes on

that until it shines like a beam of light

like a bonfire I can warm my hands by and trust

it to burn away all the waste which is not

never was my business to meddle with.

Go forth with love today.

I love you.

Thank you for reading my ramblings.

Sincerely,

Hillary

Insightful and should be shared with everyone. If only everyone would open their minds and hearts to something other than judgement and hate.

Well, it is a big abundant world, it is. I have saw abundance in overflowing trash cans all over America. Is it not a blessing that we actually put so much stuff in the garbge? Then I see on TV some family living in a trash can. There is no trash there, just whatever they can find for survival. It makes me more aware of what my grandmother used to say, "Waste Not, Want Not". Granny could find a use for anything and everything. She had a ball of string, yes string, that she would carefully unravel from the chicken feed sacks, flour sacks and sacks of beans. I can see her yet, rolling up that string. Funny, no matter how much she rolled the ball never seemed to get any larger than a soft ball. The sacks of feed, flour and beans were made of printed cotton fabric and she would buy several bags of the same print to make a dress. When the dress had "served it purpose", it would often become an apron and maybe a bonnet. If the apron became too worn she would cut the fabric into small squares and wrap her lye soap in it. Then she would tie the bars with the string she had been saving.

So here’s the thing, if we have so much material things why do we, spiritually, live such a deprived life?

Momma,I love you – and I love your insight.

I think the answer to your question "…if we have so much material things why do we, spiritually, live such a deprived life?" is this:

We’ve forgotten the divine within us – that ties us to the rest of the world. A lot of people still feel separated from God – and forget that he lives within us – and everyone else.

It’s from that perspective – of separate-ness – of lack and limitation – that so many people view the world. And that results in a very spiritually deprived society.

At least, that’s my perspective.I think that if more folks would remember their own connection to the whole – we’d all behave more like a Global Community – rather than such a cruel and self-centered society.
